Who doesn’t love Christmas or the 4th of July? At this point, highlighting these traditional holidays is pretty much expected on social media. So, to change it up and offer creative content, try acknowledging obscure and untraditional holidays. A simple Google Search is your gateway to hundreds of offbeat holidays, such as National Donut Day, Organize Your Files Week, and Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.
But don’t forget to plan ahead. If you’re going to piggyback off these funky days, have your content designed, the copy written, and your post scheduled for early in the day. You want your post to be funny, but still tie the day back to your company. For example, it was recently National Taco Day, so Byers Creative shared a photo of two of our graphic designers holding tacos with the tagline, “Taco Bout’ A Good Day.”
Another way to have some more fun on social media is to host a giveaway. If you run a remodeling company, having a Facebook giveaway for a Lowe’s gift card seems fitting, right? Ideally, it’s best if you can giveaway a prize that ties back to your business. However, it doesn’t have to be so black and white. If you’re a plumbing company, even National Coffee Day can be a chance to give away a gift card to a local coffee shop! Writing playful copy like, “We know leaky sinks can keep you up all night, so here’s your chance to win a $10 Starbucks gift card to get your caffeine fix. And next time let us handle that sink repair.”
One of the most important things to remember with giveaways is to make the rules as simple and clear as possible. Respect your fans and clients, and don’t make them jump through too many crazy hoops. Making your fans answer a riddle, tag 40 people, and share multiple times can be a pain. And always make it clear on how you’ll announce the winner and if you’re going to boost your post, be sure to follow the social media platform’s rules and regulations.
Lastly, shoot some video. Whether you’re highlighting a company event or trying to give your business a more authentic and personal touch, you want to keep your followers’ attention. And one thing is for sure – people love to watch and share videos on social media. YouTube averages around 4 billion views each day.
