FW Murphy is a family-owned company, which has grown to be one of the most respected and long-standing providers in the Oil and Natural Gas Compression markets. In an industry where confidence and reputation mean everything, design decisions require an exceptionally thoughtful and detailed approach. Over the years, as their business has grown and evolved, so has their logo.
Creative Process
FW Murphy wanted their logo to have a more modern look while also reaching back to some of their history and favorite logos of the past. So, the first step in our process was to review the evolution of their logos over time. Each previous version had a distinct idea and purpose, so we wanted to make sure we understood those components before getting started.
Through our research, it was clear the 1980s version of their logo had a fond place in the minds of employees and customers.
When we started creating the first concepts, we also had other design parameters to consider. We knew we needed to stay within their current color palette while also providing a logo design that would lend itself to metal casting on their equipment.
Ultimately, we were able to account for all of those variables and provide a fresh and modern look that would still be recognized by their existing customers.
Branded Collateral
With a new logo being unveiled, it was important to present that updated look both in the office and out in the field. So, throughout the process, we were always thinking about which design elements would best lend themselves to branded shirts and other collateral.
By considering all of these factors from the very start of a project, you don’t just end up with a beautiful design. You allow yourself to leverage that new look, across a variety of applications, without any unexpected surprises.
